Do foot orthotics really work?

I’ve been wearing them now for 6 months but I’m still in discomfort. It started off with achilles heel strain and arch pain on one foot and now since the orthotics I get pain in the other foot too, especially when I change into flat shoes or slippers at night. The pain is again in the arch and heel. Have my arches been weakened by the orthotics? What is the point? Do orthotics not cure you?

I’m also now feeling pain in the quads and knees. Are my muscles realigning? Will this pain go soon? Will I ever be able to run pain free again??
Please help. I’ve lost all faith in my physio and chiropractor.
Thanks.

      Foot pain while exercising…shoes/no shoes?

So, I’ve checked out previous arch pain questions and no, I don’t think I have plantar fasciitis. I don’t have pain in the morning, they don’t feel tight, etc. But I do have overwhelming pain in the arches of my feet while exercising. I recently started getting serious and (as much as I can) trying to do 30 min of in-home exercise a night (stationary bike, wii fit, exercise videos, etc.). I’m not technically overweight (my BMI is high-average), so I don’t think I’m overstressing my feet…I’d just like to get back to a certain size for which I own some neat duds ;) I did a belly-dancing video barefoot (thats what they called for…and I’ve done a class and you’re supposed to do it that way, but it just killed my arches). On wii fit you’re not supposed to wear shoes on the balance board, but the running (not on the board), step aerobics, and "bicycling" absolutely kill my arches. I LOVE Zumba and that’s the only video I’ve been able to do comfortably, but the last two tries I’ve had to take breaks and today stop the video because it was killing my arches. (If I go and ride my exercise bike though, it feels better after a while). I tried a Billy Blanks Boot Camp Tai Bo thing, but that killed my thighs (different story there!!!). Ugh. Should I just take a few days off…will that make whatever is bothering me go away so I can restart my "training"? Or, did I screw something up and need to go to the doctor? Should I wear shoes, or not? What does everyone else do?

My question is…sounds like the orthotic insoles are the way to go, but what about activities with no shoes? I tried my Zumba video with and without shoes and some moves were better with shoes/some without.

Anyone know where I can get a pair of Asics Nimbus VIII? W 8.5 or M 7?

I used to work in a shoe store and I stocked up on the Asics Nimbus VIII for women. I got them for cheap and I love them. They didn’t have a TON of support and the cushioning was perfect. The "newer" nimbus’ feel too bulky on my feet.

The shoe that I was in for my last pair was a Mizuno wave nirvana 4s and that was fine, but still a little bulky. They tore and hit the mile marker to toss them, so now I’m settling with a really sucky pair of nike structure triaxx that I wish to just wear around and not seriously workout in.

Does anyone know where I can get a pair (I know they’re REALLY old) of the Nirvana 8s? It seems like I’ve checked everywhere online. OR suggest a new pair – not nike or adidas – im pretty serious about my sneaks. Price doesn’t matter but comfort and weight does. Thanks!

For suggestions: I’m a heavier runner (5’8", 146#) and heavy on my feet. Neutral stride/arches with mild pronation fixed with custom orthotics that are actually used for kids with Cerebral Palsy and the like. I will not change orthotics.

      Foor support and health?

I have a job where I stand all day for nine hours at a time. Every day I feel like my feet are on fire. In the morning, I wake up and put my feet on the floor and it is like needles are being stuck into my heels and arches, but I get up and work through it. Even my shins have started to hurt. Finally a friend of mine (while over for drinks on my day off) noticed my limping, looked at my bare feet, and asked if I had flat feet. I said I did not, but she mentioned that my feet looked swollen and as though I had no arch at all. She recommended getting support for my feet, FAST, and taking better care of them as it may lead to problems down the road.
I have purchased some Dr. Scholl’s Tri-Comfort Orthotics for heel and arch support, and want to know if that is a good step in the right direction? Also, as I know nothing of foot support or problems, I want to know what else I can do to help them. How tight do I tie my shoes? Should I do more? How do I care for them when I’m on them all day?
I meant FOOT not "foor".. darned submit button! :D

Do Nike sweet classic high tops have arch support?

I really want to get some of these, but I have flat feet and my mom says I can only get shoes that have arches and will help my feet. I have orthotics, which are specially shaped to my feet to help support my arch, and she says that flat shoes won’t help them work. Please answer, cause I really want some of these shoes!!!!! Thanks.
